Lanesville Community School teachers and administrators believe that learning with technology should be a seamless experience for students rather than a special event. We are committed to providing students access to differentiated instruction at high cognitive levels. We believe that student learning is authentic when it involves real-world application with an emphasis on 21st Century skills and application.<\/p>

Empowered Use Policy<\/h2>

I understand that using school owned digital devices (both at school and at home) and the\u00a0Lanesville network is a privilege, and when I use them according to the Empowered\u00a0Use\u00a0Guidelines I will keep that privilege. Specifically, I will\u2026<\/p>

  • Take care of my device. (Return my device in the same condition as it was issued to me)<\/li>
  • Come prepared to class everyday (device is charged and working, homework is completed).<\/li>
  • Use digital devices, networks, and software in school for educational purposes and activities.<\/li>
  • Keep my personal information (including home\/mobile phone number, mailing address, and user\u00a0password) and that of others private<\/li>
  • Show respect for myself and others when using technology including social media<\/li>
  • \u00a0<\/span>Give acknowledgement to others for their ideas and work<\/li>
  • Report devices that are not working properly (including those that are damaged or broken) to\u00a0technology staff immediately<\/li>
  • Report inappropriate use of technology immediately<\/li><\/ul>

    Our new Empowered Use Policy was designed to do just that, empower our students to utilize technology and learn about how to embed it in their learning process. \u00a0These are guidelines that can apply to a wide array of situations that might arise at our school. \u00a0Please know that not all situations can be anticipated beforehand, but these guidelines should inform both students and parents about our expectations as a school corporation.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

    Why do we feel 1:1 is important for all students?<\/strong><\/p>

    • Increase student engagement<\/li>
    • Increase differentiation for students<\/li>
    • Support our curriculum and instructional practices<\/li>
    • Provide students digital skills to make them college and career ready<\/li><\/ul>
      \u00a0<\/div>

      How should I carry my device?<\/strong><\/p>

      • In\u00a0the case provided with the device<\/li>
      • In the flipped closed position<\/li><\/ul>
        \u00a0<\/div>

        What if I break my device (broken screen or physical damage)?<\/strong><\/p>

        • First break: $25<\/li>
        • Second break: $75<\/li>
        • Third break (and subsequent damages): Full cost of the device (approx. $400)<\/li>
        • If you fail to pay these fines (or setup a payment plan), you will become a \u201cday\u00a0user\u201d. (This means that you will not be permitted to take the device home until\u00a0fees are paid.)<\/li>
        • Intentional breaks<\/strong>\u00a0will result in both damage fees and additional disciplinary action.<\/li>
        • If you contribute to breaking another student\u2019s device, you will be held responsible for that break as well.<\/li><\/ul>

          What if I leave my device at home?<\/strong><\/p>

          • See Mr. Hancock for a single day loaner<\/li>
          • Multiple checkouts will result in a detention or loss of recess<\/li><\/ul>
            \u00a0<\/div>

            What if my device quits working?<\/strong><\/p>

            • This does not count as a damage. We will repair devices that malfunction.<\/li>
            • Report it to Mr. Hancock immediately.<\/li><\/ul>
              \u00a0<\/div>

              How can I help protect my device?<\/strong><\/p>

              • All K-2 students are issued cases. \u00a0Keep it in the case.<\/li>
              • All 3-12 students are provided with a carrying bag for the chromebook.<\/li>
              • When not in use, chromebooks must be in the case.<\/li>
              • Bottom Line: Take care of your device and treat it well!<\/li><\/ul>

                What if my charger is lost?<\/strong><\/p>

                • Tell Mr. Hancock and you will need to purchase a new charger through the school.\u00a0You may not purchase your own.<\/li>
                • Chromebooks chargers are $36.<\/li>
                • iPad chargers are $40.\u00a0<\/li>
                • If you do not turn in your\u00a0school-issued\u00a0charger<\/strong>\u00a0at the end of the school year, you\u00a0will be charged this fee.<\/li><\/ul>

                  What if I lose my case?<\/strong><\/p>

                  • You are responsible for the replacement cost to be purchased through the school.<\/li><\/ul>

                    What if my computer is lost?<\/strong><\/p>

                    • Please report it immediately to Mr. Hancock. It is important that you report any\u00a0missing devices ASAP so that we can assist you in locating your device. If you lose\u00a0the device and it cannot be located, you will be responsible for the full cost of\u00a0replacement.<\/li><\/ul>

                      Where can I have my device out?<\/strong><\/p>

                      • In the classroom<\/li>
                      • Once you are safely at home<\/li><\/ul>

                        What if I don\u2019t have internet at home?<\/strong><\/p>

                        • School building is open from 7-4.<\/li>
                        • Free wifi is offered at many local places.<\/li>
                        • Communicate consistently with your teacher.<\/li>
                        • Google Docs are available offline.<\/li><\/ul>

                          As a parent, how can I help?<\/strong><\/p>

                          • Set limits for your child<\/li>
                          • Communicate with your child\u2019s teacher<\/li>
                          • Monitor your child\u2019s usage<\/li>
